Kimsan Chann
Training Coordinator of Climate Gen, 27 years old Background in Water & Environment Engineering
“Life is short but it took me too long to survive."
Studying in Phnom Penh has been one of my greatest blessings and the best decision I've ever made. My initial dream of working in water conservation was sparked by my encounter with motivated scientists from the Wonders of Mekong team during a Young Eco Ambassador volunteering event. Their energy inspired me to pursue a research career and fulfill my purpose.
My research focused on hydrological and drought management in the Lower Mekong Basin. My findings have influenced decisions on river management and biodiversity conservation. Additionally, I've been actively involved in organizing workshops and training programs with Climate Gen and Wonders of the Mekong, focusing on fishery conservation.
Working in the real world has been challenging at times, requiring critical thinking to solve complex problems and find solutions. Leadership training has been invaluable, teaching me effective communication with government officials, communities, and private sectors. These lessons have helped me develop non-violent communication skills, a cornerstone of Climate Gen. I've applied these skills to interact with stakeholders, understanding their language and tone to communicate effectively without draining my energy.
While I may not have many specific achievements to highlight from my time with Climate Gen, the program has been a significant influence on my life. I faced a personal storm this year that drained my energy and nearly caused me to lose my sense of purpose. The leadership training provided invaluable support during this challenging time. I am grateful for the supportive trainers and mentors who have become a part of my life.
