“Don't be afraid of failing but you should be afraid of giving up or not trying”

During my high school, I typically went to school to study, but I struggled to put what I learned into practice because there were not many volunteer opportunities available in my hometown. I admire young online creators and aspire to follow a similar path. That is why I want to go to university and use my free time on weekends or holidays to learn new skills that can benefit both myself and society. Since moving to Phnom Penh for university, I've had a great opportunity to explore the city and join outdoor activities in my community. Fortunately, I discovered the Climate Gen program, and I can confidently say it's the best program I've ever joined. This program is truly amazing! It provides skills related to climate action, as well as essential soft skills that we can apply in our daily lives. What I once only dreamed of is now a reality – being part of a team that can make a positive impact on my community, doing something I'm passionate about. This is the best feeling ever! Getting selected for this program is one of my proudest achievements of 2023. Not only am I learning a lot, but I'm also meeting incredible people.

Originally, my interest in the Climate Gen program was sparked by a desire to volunteer for climate change activities that go beyond just tree planting. I wanted to make a deeper impact. However, I also wanted to learn more about the program's approach and the solutions it proposes. The program's promise of lectures on climate change topics and the opportunity to meet with experts was very appealing. Additionally, since there was a similar program running in the Philippines at the same time, I saw a chance to exchange knowledge with people from another country, broadening my understanding even further.

Initially, I was afraid of talking to new people. I would avoid eye contact and hide in the back. However, since joining Climate Gen, I've gained more confidence and am now able to reach out to others without feeling anxious. Thanks to the core team and everyone involved, they are true leaders who push me and other members to grow day by day. Everyone here is so kind, and it motivates me to be a kind person myself.

I never imagined myself becoming a teacher or giving lectures to others. But during the campaign project in Kampong Cham province, I found myself doing just that! It seems like my introverted side has disappeared. Similarly, during the charity day at RUPP, my introverted side vanished. We set up a booth, asked questions, and played games with the visitors. I never thought I'd be so comfortable reaching out to strangers – it felt completely out of character!

Climate Gen is the most comforting place I've found. I consider it my second family, with incredibly kind brothers and sisters. Even though they face challenges, they never give up on us. They take breaks but always find their way back to support us. Their dedication inspires me to never give up on my own goals – it's okay to rest, but never stop striving to achieve them.

A big round of applause to Bong Roth for creating this program and bringing together such amazing people who have become the Climate Gen family! Thank you to everyone for being so helpful, giving suggestions, and being such good listeners. I'll definitely be sad when the program ends, but I hope our friendships can last forever, just like a family.
